Accusations against Vitter first made in 2004 by Republican official.

Charges made by Republican official

Allegations against Vitter for having an eleven month affair with a prostitute were first brought in 2004 by Vincent Bruno, secretary of the Republican Party of Jefferson Parish. A Republican, be it noted. The revelation caused him to drop out of the governor's race, and get into marriage counseling.

It does not appear from this story that this incident was connected with the DC Madam, but is, instead, a separate scandal. I wonder what his wife thinks about this new revelation. Did she know?

Update:
This story confirms that the prostitute was living in New Orleans, not Washington. So this new revelation IS separate from the earlier one.

Update:
My Republican insider source tells me that Vitter's wife Wendy knew about both indiscretions.
