Lafayette Daily Advertiser.[Mack] Money, a refugee himself, said the decadence celebration began 33 years ago as a going away party for the late Mike Evers, a Lafayette native, when he moved to Chicago.
"We had a candlelight vigil for Mike the other night, and I always read something about him," Money said.
I knew Mike Evers, we went to the same high school, and I "marched" in one of the first Southern Decadence parades, about thirty years ago, costumed as Dr. Demento.
