Lafayette absorbs evacuees into schools.

There are 3,258 students starting school Monday in the Lafayette Parish School District, and 88 new teachers were hired Saturday to educate them.

In the face of the biggest natural disaster in the United States in more than 100 years, the Lafayette Parish School District is undertaking one of its biggest challenges - finding enough books, desks, food, classroom space, teachers and school buses to absorb the students.

Too bad the school board shoved me away when I expressed an interest in teaching. Guess two degrees isn't enough when there's red tape to be cleared. I hope they can meet their needs.
