Most importantly, FEMA, through a program with the American Bar Association’s Young Lawyers’ Section, coordinates free disaster legal services to victims of major disasters. These services include assistance with insurance claims (life, medical, property), landlord-tenant problems, consumer protection, and wills and estates. Eligible individuals should contact the ABA’s Young Lawyers Division (http://www.abanet.org/yld/home.html) or the Young Lawyers Divisions of Alabama, Florida, Louisiana or Mississippi Bar Association.
